How to remove a color from a screenshot

Open the screenshot, click the flat UI color you want gone, keep tolerance narrow, inspect the checkerboard preview, and download a transparent PNG. Processing happens locally on your device.

Use this color remover

For a solid background, logo, icon, signature, green screen, or simple flat graphic where you can pick the unwanted color.

Use an AI background remover

For complex photos, hair, fur, busy scenes, or a background that shares important colors with the subject.

Pick a known color.
Keep control.

Use this page for screenshots with predictable digital fills: a solid app panel, status bar, browser chrome strip, diagram background, or mockup area that needs to become transparent.

What this tool changes

Image Color Remover compares every pixel with the color you select. Pixels inside the selected range become transparent in the downloaded PNG. Start with a narrow tolerance, then widen it only when nearby shades need to be included.

Because the processing happens in your browser, the source image is not uploaded, stored, or edited in place. The download is a new PNG and the original remains untouched.

How to get a clean result

Click a clean representative area of the unwanted color. Keep tolerance low for logos, icons, diagrams, and exact digital fills. For anti-aliased edges or uneven lighting, increase tolerance gradually while watching the checkerboard.

Use a small amount of edge softness only when a hard outline remains. If an important area begins to disappear, lower the tolerance or sample a different pixel.

When this is the right method

Select a solid header, sidebar, browser chrome strip, or toolbar fill while preserving the text and icons above it.

This method is deterministic: it follows the color range you choose instead of guessing which object is the subject. That makes it useful for artwork and flat backgrounds where you need predictable pixel-level control.

Important limitation

This works for flat digital fills, not photographic backgrounds. It can also remove matching colors inside text, icons, charts, or overlapping subject areas, so it cannot separate overlapping colors or understand UI objects automatically.

Export as PNG to preserve transparency. JPEG cannot store transparent pixels.

Quick workflow

Open the image → click the unwanted color → adjust tolerance → inspect the transparent preview → download PNG. For a broader image workflow, use the remove color from image tool, or use replace color in image when the panel needs a new fill instead of transparency.

Focused jobs.
One chosen color.

These examples work when the unwanted area is mostly one flat or consistently shaded color.

01 / UI CHROME

Clear a screenshot panel or toolbar

Select a solid header, sidebar, browser chrome strip, or toolbar fill while preserving the text and icons above it.

02 / STATUS BAR

Remove a solid status bar fill

Make a consistently colored notification, progress, or status bar transparent when its fill does not overlap important details.

03 / MOCKUP

Clean a mockup screenshot

Remove a flat placeholder panel from a device or product mockup before placing new artwork behind it.

04 / DIAGRAM

Clear a diagram screenshot backdrop

Turn a solid diagram, chart, or presentation background transparent when the screenshot uses a simple digital color.

Make one color
transparent.

Small adjustments are safer than a broad threshold, especially near important edges.

1

Open the source image

Choose PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP. Keep the original file as your backup.

2

Sample the unwanted color

Click a clear pixel, or enter a six-digit HEX value when you know the exact color.

3

Tune the matching range

Raise tolerance only enough to catch related shades; add slight softness for anti-aliased edges.

4

Download transparent PNG

Check the result against the checkerboard, then save a new PNG with transparency preserved.

Common questions

Remove Color From Screenshot Online FAQ

Can I remove a solid color from a UI screenshot?

Yes. Click a representative pixel in the solid panel, toolbar, status bar, or background, then adjust tolerance until the selected fill becomes transparent.

Will screenshot text and icons stay intact?

Usually, if their colors are different from the selected fill and tolerance is narrow. If an icon or text uses the same color, it may also become transparent.

Can I remove a browser chrome or app panel from a screenshot?

Yes, when that area is a consistent flat color. Sample the panel itself and inspect the checkerboard around its edges before downloading.

Does this remove a photographic background from a screenshot?

No. A screenshot of a photo still contains many changing colors. This tool is designed for solid UI fills, not photographic background removal.

Are screenshots uploaded to a server?

No. The screenshot is processed locally in your browser, and the downloaded result is a new transparent PNG.

Still seeing white edges?

For an already transparent PNG with pale fringes, try the white halo cleaner. Compare edge colors against dark and light backgrounds before downloading.
