Pick a known color.
Keep control.

Use this page for a classic selective-color effect: preserve a red umbrella, flower, outfit, logo accent, or any distinct color while muting the rest of the image.

What this tool changes

Image Color Remover compares every pixel with the color you select. Pixels inside the selected range become transparent in the downloaded PNG. Start with a narrow tolerance, then widen it only when nearby shades need to be included.

Because the processing happens in your browser, the source image is not uploaded, stored, or edited in place. The download is a new PNG and the original remains untouched.

How to get a clean result

Click a clean representative area of the unwanted color. Keep tolerance low for logos, icons, diagrams, and exact digital fills. For anti-aliased edges or uneven lighting, increase tolerance gradually while watching the checkerboard.

Use a small amount of edge softness only when a hard outline remains. If an important area begins to disappear, lower the tolerance or sample a different pixel.

When this is the right method

Leave a distinct item in color while converting the surrounding colors to grayscale.

This method is deterministic: it follows the color range you choose instead of guessing which object is the subject. That makes it useful for artwork and flat backgrounds where you need predictable pixel-level control.

Important limitation

Every pixel near the chosen color stays vivid, even if it belongs to a different object. This works best when the desired color is visually distinct from the rest of the image.

Export as PNG to preserve transparency. JPEG cannot store transparent pixels.

Quick workflow

Open the image → click the unwanted color → adjust tolerance → inspect the transparent preview → download PNG. To make the selected color transparent instead, use remove color from image.

Focused jobs.
One chosen color.

These examples work when the unwanted area is mostly one flat or consistently shaded color.

01 / PHOTO

Keep one subject color vivid

Leave a distinct item in color while converting the surrounding colors to grayscale.

02 / CAMPAIGN

Emphasize a brand accent

Make one known brand-color element stand out in a social post or simple campaign graphic.

03 / PRODUCT

Create a selective-color product image

Keep a product color visible when the surrounding scene has clearly different hues.

04 / POSTER

Make a quick color-splash graphic

Create a dramatic single-color effect without uploading the original image to a server.

Make one color
transparent.

Small adjustments are safer than a broad threshold, especially near important edges.

1

Open the source image

Choose PNG, JPG, JPEG, or WebP. Keep the original file as your backup.

2

Sample the unwanted color

Click a clear pixel, or enter a six-digit HEX value when you know the exact color.

3

Tune the matching range

Raise tolerance only enough to catch related shades; add slight softness for anti-aliased edges.

4

Download transparent PNG

Check the result against the checkerboard, then save a new PNG with transparency preserved.

Common questions

Color Splash Online FAQ

What is a color splash effect?

It keeps a chosen color visible while desaturating the remaining colors toward grayscale.

Yes. Choose “Keep color,” then click the color directly in the preview or enter its HEX value.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The color-splash edit is processed locally in your browser.

Still seeing white edges?

For an already transparent PNG with pale fringes, try the white halo cleaner. Compare edge colors against dark and light backgrounds before downloading.
